Automating customer support with AI without losing the human touch

On this page
Support is one of the clearest early wins for AI: high volume, repetitive questions, and answers that already live in your help centre. But automation done badly frustrates customers faster than it helps. The difference is design.
Ground answers in your own knowledge
A retrieval-augmented assistant answers from your documented policies and product docs, not the open internet. That keeps responses accurate, on-brand, and auditable — the foundation of customer trust.
Design the escalation path first
Decide up front when the AI should hand off to a human — low confidence, sensitive topics, or an explicit request. A clean handoff with full context feels better to customers than a bot that pretends to know everything.
Measure resolution, not deflection
Deflecting a ticket is not the same as solving a problem. Track genuine resolution rate and CSAT alongside volume, and review transcripts weekly in the early days to keep quality high as coverage grows.
